On cleanliness...

I got a call from Abi's school around lunchtime today. She had fallen into a mud puddle and was covered. The secretary started laughing as she told me, "You should see her."

I got a ride to the school and took a change of clothes. I asked Abi why she was playing in the mud. She said, "I was just walking around it." Hmmm...



Thinking there was more to the story, I later asked her, "Were you walking around the mud, or in the mud?"

She responded, "Well, in it." Like, duh mom.

On Staying Calm

Abi tells me when she gets home from school, "It was CRAZY today. It was dark (the power went out) and girls were screaming."

Okay. Great. Glad to hear it.

Then I hear the teacher's version of what happened.

Apparently, when the lights went out, and the other girls started screaming, Abi just sat in her seat and said, "Okay. I'm not freaking out now. I'm not freaking out." Mind you, she is saying this outloud, repeatedly. So, Miss Johnson asked Abi if she was okay, and Abi responded, "Yes. I'm just trying not to freak myself out." And she sat there and kept saying that to herself - outloud - while it was dark and there was chaos all around her.

Whose child is this?

On Listening...

I was brushing Abi's hair on Thursday morning. She said, "Don't spray my hair." (We use a detangler).
I said, "I won't," and continued brushing.
Abi said a little louder, "I said don't."
"I didn't spray it," I replied.

Turning so that she could look me in the eye so that I would understand how serious she was, she slowly said, "When I say 'DON'T,' I mean do not do that."

I stopped.

On Humor...

Abi made these jokes up today - she says that they are "like math without the numbers."

Q: What does owl + owl = ?
A: Spooky

Q: What does water + water = ?
A: A leak

Q: What does hat + hat = ?
me: I don't know
A: Me, eider (either)

Q: What does rock + rock = ?
A: Heavy
She adds: "You have to be thinking, to guess the answer."

Q: What does stripe + stripe = ?
A: A pattern

Q: What does stick + stick = ?
A: A branch

Q: What does chocolate + chocolate = ?
me: A sticky, messy Abi
A: Ahhh, you knew that one.

On Friends...

Out of the blue on Friday, Abi says to me, "Mom, Tanner yelled at me and I accidentally choked him, so he bit me, and then I yelled at him." (starts to cry)

"Well, do you want to write him a note to say you are sorry?"

"Yes," (still crying), "I'm just a little dissappointed in myself for being mean."
